The aged caretaker had warned them not to visit the grave of the warlock.
The old man had regaled them with the story of how the warlock’s head had been severed to hold him in his grave.
Only a fool would believe that the head of the corpse slowly moved from its place at the corpse’s feet toward its former home but the old man had been so fervent in his belief that they had to visit the grave.
The grave, unremarkable, held no sense of menace and they turned to leave, sure that the old man had been pulling their legs. Then the sound of shifting stones and a sudden drop in air temperature told them that they should have heeded the old man’s warnings.
