“How long are you going to be in there?”
I pounded on the bathroom door. My older sister had been in there for over an hour. I know she wanted to take a soak but for God’s sake it had been so long the water had to be cold and she probably looked like a prune by now.
“Jenny, I gotta pee!”
A grunt came from within. Jenny was such a jerk. We only had one bathroom and she had been hogging it forever. If mom and dad were home I’d be demanding that they intercede.
When Jenny came home from her date she was upset. Her right hand was wrapped in a bloody bandage. Some guy had accosted her and Clint as they walked through the park. She said he was filthy and out of his mind on some drug or something.
She tried to offer him money to make him go away but the man lunged forward and bit her. Clint punched the crazy man and they ran.
Pressure doubled me over. I was on the verge of exploding. Wetting myself was not an option, I was not a baby. I pounded on the door again, rattling it in the frame.
A groan came from the bathroom. Was I putting Jenny out? Was she upset and moaning that I was daring to interrupt her bath? Well the hell with her. She was being rude.
Anger and a painful bladder overrode my politeness and fear of my elder sister. I turned the knob. It wasn’t locked. A victorious smile split my face. The hell with Jenny’s bath. If she wanted to soak all night she could smell my pee.
I flung the door open and began my mad dash to the toilet. Two steps into the bathroom I froze. I no longer needed the toilet as my bladder released down my legs. Jenny, at least I think it was Jenny, splashed in a tub full of water the color of blood. Her skin was sunken and gray and her beautiful long blonde hair had fallen out. She turned her face to me and hissed. Blood fountained from her mouth further darkening the water.
“Brains,” she moaned.
I screamed and ran.
